This project is nearing the end its been fun and challenging.
Last few items are rims seat rear sprocket and the dreaded plastics. Front number plates are not a problem as we have plenty and they fit A1 and look as the orignal.
Rear guards front guards side panel are all due in 2008 as we are going to reproduce them.

The front wheel pictured below was remove from a YZ125x. It does not have the correct prefix, or does it?
These types of discrepancy's are common, manufactures have all sorts of supply challanges.
Did these bikes come from the factory like this, who knows.
This type of information would only be know by the purchasing officer of the time.

The same rim is also found on the 125D.

Rear suspension.

The YZ 125 X has a longer momo shock than a 125 C . The rear swing arm is also different. There is a 30mm difference with the YZ 125 X being longer. Other changes are a chain tensioner and a different chain guide. The chain adjusters are also new for the 125x.
All chain rollers and pivot bolts are the same as a 125C.

Engine paint.

The engine must be painted in a semi gloss paint. This engine will be painted in two pack, just as it was 30 years ago. I am yet to do some experimenting with two pack flat black's on engines. I will post information once I have worked it out.

Engine preparation.

The engine components must be stripped clean and checked for any cracks and misalignments.
Also damage to any sealing surfaces must be corrected now.

Make sure all threads are functioning correctly.
Check engine mounting holes are not elongated.
All seal seats must be undamaged.

Primed and ready for colour.

PAINT STRIPPER.

Ok lets strip, apply a liberial coat of auto paint stripper.
Allow to penatrate paint surface for 30 min, do not allow to dry.
Using a hot warter pressure washer remove all paint.
Apply more stripper where paint is still on surface.
And repeate with pressure washer.
Once completed blow dry with air line making sure there in no
moisture on surface.

Note photo below the rust on the frame is mostley where exposed to the weather.
This must all be removed before paint is applied.
I will remove this with a special auto rust preperation soloution.
Do not use course sanding discs or sandpaper as this will damage the surface.
Use scotch brites or similar product. Be patient it will pay off.

Once all major repairs have been completed, its time to paint strip.
Once all metal is exposed you will see what you have.
On this arm there is rust creep picture(3) it is quite common on fatory original parts,why they rarely ever primed, metal or alloy.
Picture (4) cemical cleaning is the only way to go a perfect finish every time.
And simple to use.
I will be primming the parts on this bike due to peppering of the steel from rocks.
It would be almost impossible to not prime.

Exaust system. YZ 125 X.

Fitting the pipe pryer to paint is crucial.
This will elevate the chance of damaging paint on both the frame and the exaust.
Also any agjustment to the pipe can be done now.
Check all threads and sealing points for correct alignment.
Check side cover for clearance on the stinger and correct spacing.
The exaust stays sould also be replaced where required.
A new exaust spring and bolt must be used to allow for the correct engagement of the header pipe.
A point of interest on the chamber the yz 125x and the yz 125c have differant stinger dimensions. The x model has a larger diameter stinger 26mm and the 125c 23mm.

Frame repairs continue.

YZ 125X- 1G8 Chassis - Changes over 125C- 537

The rear arm bolt has a retainer on the 125x.
The 125c does not have this piece.

The 125x has an all new foot peg mounting and foot peg.
The 125c is completley different.
The rear swing arm on the 125 X also has a chain tensioner mount.
The yz 125 c has not got this.

Above is a yz 125 X frame 1G8 prefix.
Athough they are similar to the YZ 125 C they have
subtle changes.
The engine mounts on the 125x are a modified version of
the 125c. Both bikes are prone to engine mount cracks.

Note the exaust bracket on the 125x is also upgraded from
the 125c.
And below the new updated foot peg mount as compaired
to the YZ 125 C.

The YZ 125 X was an attempt to improve over the 125 C.
This is my 4th race bike.

Below shot is my YZ 125 X IN RACE TRIM. 1976.
